We chose the Edinburgh Castle for a family steak dinner in central Sydney. The historic Pitt Street pub gave us an easy walk from our hotel, generous plates and a relaxed room away from the busier bar.

A family dinner at the Edinburgh Castle
We visited in April 2026 after a full day walking through Sydney. The corner building looked like a traditional city pub, and the wooden entrance led from Pitt Street into the darker interior.
We were travelling with our parents and wanted a substantial dinner without leaving the CBD. Staff directed us to a table where we could look through the steak and pub-food options together.
The venue's current website uses the shorter name The Eddy while still calling the building The Edinburgh Castle. This review records what we saw and ate during our April visit.
The steaks and sides we ordered
One steak arrived with seasonal vegetables, potatoes and sauce. The meat was the reason for choosing the dish, but the vegetables made it feel like a complete dinner rather than only steak and chips.
Another plate paired steak with salad, potatoes and sauce. Ordering different sides let our family compare the dishes while keeping the same main course.
The steaks were cooked well and had enough flavour to remain the focus beside the generous sides. We left satisfied after a long sightseeing day.

A classic Sydney pub interior
Our dining room retained arched windows, deep green walls and dark timber. It felt calmer than the main public bar while preserving the atmosphere of an older city pub.
Downstairs, black tiles and a wooden counter gave the public bar a more traditional look. The current layout describes a main bar downstairs and Dusk Bar & Bistro upstairs.
The Pitt Street side had a separate PUBLIC BAR entrance, useful when meeting someone outside the venue.
Live sport and events can make the main bar much louder than the room we used, so ask which level suits the dinner you want.
Location and transport
The Edinburgh Castle is at 294 Pitt Street, at the corner of Pitt and Bathurst streets. Gadigal metro station is close by, and Town Hall station and light rail stops are within walking distance.
- Gadigal station: use a Bathurst Street exit.
- Town Hall station: walk east through the CBD.
- Town Hall light rail: continue towards Pitt Street.
- Hyde Park: allow roughly 10–15 minutes on foot from the southern side.
Open Google Maps for the current route. We could walk there from Pullman Sydney Hyde Park and return to the hotel after dinner.
A nearby convenience stop
After dinner, we found a 7-Eleven within a short walk on the surrounding CBD streets. It was useful for water and small supplies before returning to the hotel.
Convenience-store locations and opening hours change, so use the photograph only as a record of our route rather than a guaranteed stop.
