Janus Bar Sydney Lunch Review: Dining by the Green Wall
We found Janus while walking through Sydney CBD and stopped for lunch beside its living green wall. The charcoal-grilled chicken, pita and garden-like courtyard made it more than a convenient break.
A lunch stop we found by chance
We visited Janus on 17 April 2026. After the State Library of NSW and Parliament House, we were walking towards the Museum of Sydney and looking for somewhere to eat.
Turning into Bligh Street revealed a huge green wall below the surrounding office towers. We had not chosen a restaurant in advance, but the courtyard drew us in.
The plants, shade and steady lunchtime crowd made the space feel more like a small city garden than the base of an office building.

Most of the visible tables were outdoors beneath large umbrellas. Office workers filled the courtyard at lunch, but the green wall softened the glass and concrete around it.
It was casual rather than formal: we ordered, collected our food and chose a table. The setting still made an ordinary lunch feel unhurried.

A large grill occupied one side of the venue, where meat cooked over charcoal on long skewers. We could see and smell the cooking while deciding what to order.
The menu leaned towards Greek-inspired pita and grilled dishes. Our family chose different plates, then carried them back to the courtyard table.
What we ate: chicken, pita and coffee
One plate paired grilled chicken with lemon, green chilli and a white sauce. The outside was smoky and browned while the meat remained tender; squeezing over the lemon kept it fresh after a morning of walking.
The pita wrapped meat, vegetables and sauce, with chips on the side. It was easy to eat without turning our sightseeing break into a long restaurant meal.
We also ordered coffee and stayed a little longer beneath the green wall before continuing to the museum.

From Bligh Street, it was a short walk east along Bridge Street to the Museum of Sydney. The museum's ship models, archaeological material and First Nations perspectives gave the afternoon a very different pace from lunch.
Janus works particularly well before or after a CBD walk through Martin Place, Circular Quay or The Rocks because it does not require a separate trip.
