Blu Marlin Bistro let us eat breakfast beside Cairns Reef Fleet Terminal before our Green Island cruise. Its early opening, marina view and short walk to check-in made the timing work.

Breakfast before our Green Island cruise
We ate at Blu Marlin on 13 April 2026 before a full day on Green Island. The full-day Green Island cruise from Cairns we booked uses Big Cat Green Island Reef Cruises, with check-in at Marlin Wharf.
We walked from The Benson Hotel, ate beside the terminal and then moved directly to the vessel check-in area. That kept breakfast and departure within the same waterfront precinct.
The previous day we had taken Skyrail and the Kuranda Scenic Railway. Placing the rainforest day and reef day back to back made an early breakfast beside the boat particularly useful.
A cruise voucher usually gives a check-in time earlier than the boat's departure. We planned breakfast from that check-in time, not from the sailing time.

Blu Marlin Bistro is at the Reef Fleet Terminal, 1 Spence Street, Cairns QLD 4870. It serves travellers heading to Green Island, Fitzroy Island and other Great Barrier Reef trips, as well as local diners.

Early opening for morning departures
The official Blu Marlin website currently lists daily opening from 6 am to 2 pm. It also describes takeaway food and coffee for travellers going to the reef or Fitzroy Island.
At the counter, some people ordered coffee or takeaway while others sat down for breakfast. If time is short, decide before ordering whether a full meal will leave enough buffer for the check-in queue.
The venue advises that weekends can be busy and accepts advance bookings. Hours can change on holidays, so check the live page before an early departure.
Waterfront tables overlooking the marina
Our table faced Trinity Inlet and the boats preparing for the morning. Sitting beside the water made breakfast feel like the start of the reef trip rather than a separate stop.
The terrace is open to Cairns heat and sun, so choose shade if the morning is already warm.
The vessel in this photograph belongs to another operator, not the Big Cat cruise we used. Several companies depart from the precinct, so match the vessel and berth to your booking voucher.
The venue describes its large outdoor area as wheelchair- and dog-friendly. Travellers with bags should still choose a table that keeps the walkway clear.
What we ordered for breakfast
The breakfast menu included eggs, avocado dishes, pancakes, fruit and coffee, with both substantial plates and faster takeaway choices.
Our Eggs Benedict came with bacon, spinach and poached eggs on an English muffin. It was filling enough for a day of swimming and walking on the island.
The ham-and-cheese croissant was lighter and easier to finish before boarding. The outside was toasted and the cheese had melted through the centre.
We also ordered a green latte and drank it while watching the marina. Anyone prone to seasickness may prefer a lighter meal and should follow their own medical advice.
Is it the default breakfast before Green Island?
Blu Marlin is not tied to one Green Island operator, and no traveller is required to eat there. Its practical advantage is the combination of a 6 am opening, waterfront seating and a position beside the terminal.
It worked for us because breakfast ended only a short walk from Big Cat check-in. The same convenience applies to other reef departures only if their voucher names a nearby berth.
