Yellow Deli Katoomba Review: Lunch in the Blue Mountains
We found The Yellow Deli by chance while looking for lunch in central Katoomba. Its handmade timber interior was unlike any other café we entered during our Blue Mountains day trip.

Returning to Katoomba after Echo Point
We visited on 16 April 2026. After seeing the Three Sisters from Echo Point, we took a local bus back towards central Katoomba.
Our Sydney to the Blue Mountains transport guide explains the train and bus route. For lunch, however, we deliberately left the plan open and looked at the streets around town.
Katoomba Street had enough cafés and restaurants to compare on foot. The wooden doorway and hand-painted sign of The Yellow Deli stood out immediately.

The restaurant is at 214 Katoomba Street, Katoomba NSW 2780. It is walkable from Katoomba Station and can be reached between sightseeing buses serving the town.

A handmade timber interior
Inside, timber ran through the walls, posts, tables, lamps and railings. Seating wrapped around an open central area, creating a much larger room than the shopfront suggested.
Warm light from handmade fixtures fell across the beams. It felt closer to a carefully built mountain lodge or film set than a standard main-street café.
A wooden staircase led to more seating above, with fabric and small decorative details along the way.
We spent the wait looking around the building with our parents; the craftsmanship became part of the meal rather than just its backdrop.
Ordering from the hand-drawn menu
The yellow menu used hand-drawn lettering and illustrations. Alongside sandwiches were breakfast items, coffee, juices and smoothies.
Three of us ordered two sandwiches and three drinks. We did not record the full sandwich names, so the table keeps only the amounts we can read confidently from the receipt.

Apple drinks and ginger beer
We ordered both hot and cold cloudy apple drinks, plus ginger beer. They gave us a welcome pause after the bus ride and morning viewpoint walk.
The drinks list may rotate, so check the illustrated menu or ask what is available on the day.
Sandwiches large enough for lunch
Both sandwiches came in baskets with potato chips. Together they were enough for our family to share as a midday meal.
One used a round roll with a substantial filling, while the chips added a simple side.
The second came on a poppy-seed roll. Photographing the two separately helped us compare them, even though we did not preserve their menu names.
The exact fillings and presentation can change, but our experience was a filling, casual lunch rather than a small café snack.
Walking around central Katoomba
After lunch, we continued past shops, murals and older façades on Katoomba Street. The town centre is useful for food, supplies and a break between buses.
For a day trip, keep the return train and bus timetable in view. An overnight stay gives more time for the town, Echo Point and our Scenic World route without fitting everything around the evening train.
